What is Microsoft Foundry?
Microsoft Foundry is Microsoft's platform for building AI applications on Azure — the model catalog, deployments, agents and tooling that used to be called Azure AI Studio and then Azure AI Foundry. "Claude in Microsoft Foundry" adds Anthropic's models to that catalog with Azure-native endpoints, Azure API keys or Microsoft Entra ID authentication, and billing on the Azure invoice through the "Claude Platform on Foundry" marketplace offer. The service itself is operated by Anthropic: Anthropic is the seller and the data processor, and Claude counts as a non-Microsoft product under Microsoft's terms.
When should you use Microsoft Foundry for Claude?
It fits Azure-first organizations that want Claude on the same subscription, identity and commitment as everything else — spend can draw down a Microsoft Azure Consumption Commitment, and support runs through Microsoft. Two hosting options exist: "Hosted on Azure", where prompts and completions stay inside Azure, and "Hosted on Anthropic infrastructure", where data may be processed outside Azure. What to watch: there is no EU data zone yet (deployments are global or US-only), pay-as-you-go subscriptions start with small quotas, and the Batches API and Managed Agents are not available. Our AI & Automation work covers Foundry deployments for Azure shops. All seven ways to get Claude are compared in Seven paths to Claude.
