Claude Team

Claude for Teams

Claude Team is Anthropic's seat-based plan for teams of 2 to 150 people: the Claude apps, Claude Code, Cowork, Design and connectors, with central billing and admin, bought self-serve at claude.ai.

Who it's for

  • Teams of 2–150 who use Claude as people, not through an API
  • Companies that want a predictable per-seat cost with usage included
  • A first company-wide rollout that can grow into Enterprise later

What to watch

  • No SCIM, audit logs or custom data retention — those are Enterprise features
  • Usage limits are per member; heavy Claude Code or Cowork users may need Premium seats or Enterprise
  • No EU processing option for the apps; the move to Enterprise is one-way

How you buy

Self-serve at claude.ai with a card, monthly or annual; Standard or Premium seats, mixed as needed; optional prepaid usage credits at API rates for members who reach their limits.

Claude Enterprise

Claude for Enterprise

Claude Enterprise is the claude.ai plan for organizations that need governance — SSO and SCIM, audit logs, a Compliance API, custom data retention and spend controls — sold self-serve from 20 seats or through sales from 50, with an access fee per seat plus usage billed at API rates.

Who it's for

  • Organizations of 20+ (self-serve) or 50+ (sales-assisted) with security and compliance requirements
  • Heavy Claude Code and Cowork usage where per-seat limits would bite
  • Companies that will also run API workloads and want one parent organization

What to watch

  • Every unit of usage is metered — set spend limits per organization, group and user from day one
  • US-only inference is available at a premium; there is no EU-only setting
  • Team → Enterprise migration is not reversible; some features default to off after migration

How you buy

Self-serve online from 20 seats (card or ACH, USD, credits purchased upfront) or sales-assisted from 50 seats (invoicing, multi-currency, usage billed monthly in arrears); also listed on AWS Marketplace as a SaaS offer.

Amazon Bedrock

Claude in Amazon Bedrock

Amazon Bedrock is the AWS-operated way to run Claude: the same Messages API shape, on AWS-managed infrastructure, with AWS as the data processor, IAM for access and usage billed as native AWS service usage.

Who it's for

  • Teams whose applications and data already live on AWS
  • Regulated buyers who need AWS to be the sole data processor, or FedRAMP High / HIPAA via AWS
  • EU data residency through EU inference profiles and in-region endpoints

What to watch

  • No Anthropic server-side tools: no web search, code execution, Files, Batches, Skills, MCP connector or Managed Agents
  • New models and lifecycle dates follow AWS's schedule (in practice recent launches were same-day)
  • Support and quotas are AWS's; Anthropic's ZDR and HIPAA programs do not apply here — AWS's do

How you buy

Enable model access in your AWS account; pay AWS's prices on the AWS bill, with a premium for regional (including EU) endpoints; spend counts toward AWS commitments; private offers exist.

The AWS fork

Claude Platform on AWS

Claude Platform on AWS is Anthropic's own platform reached through your AWS account: the full Claude API surface, operated by Anthropic, billed through AWS Marketplace in Claude Consumption Units that retire against AWS commitments.

When to choose it instead: Choose it over Bedrock when you want the complete Claude API feature set — server-side tools, Files, Batches, Skills, Managed Agents — and same-day model launches on the AWS bill, and you can accept Anthropic as the data processor with inference that may route outside AWS: global or US-only, no EU pinning, no HIPAA readiness. Rate limits stay on the Start tier until an Anthropic representative raises them.

Google Cloud (Vertex AI / Agent Platform)

Vertex AI, renamed Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform in April 2026

Google Cloud's Vertex AI, renamed the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform in April 2026, offers Claude as a Google-operated partner model: Google Cloud IAM and billing, an API nearly identical to the Claude Messages API, and Google's regional and multi-region endpoints.

Who it's for

  • GCP-native teams
  • EU data residency via the eu multi-region endpoint
  • Public-sector buyers using Assured Workloads (FedRAMP High)

What to watch

  • Among Anthropic's server-side tools only web search is available — no code execution, Files, Batches, Skills, MCP connector or Managed Agents
  • The newest models run on global or multi-region endpoints; specific regional endpoints stop at Sonnet 4.6
  • Google sets quotas, prices and lifecycle dates; support is Google's

How you buy

Enable the model in a Google Cloud project; pay Google's prices on the Google Cloud bill, with a premium for regional and multi-region endpoints; provisioned throughput on regional endpoints.

Microsoft Foundry

formerly Azure AI Foundry

Microsoft Foundry, formerly Azure AI Foundry, offers Claude with Azure-native endpoints and Microsoft Entra ID authentication, billed on the Azure invoice through the Azure Marketplace — but operated by Anthropic, which is the seller and the data processor.

Who it's for

  • Azure-first organizations with a Microsoft Azure Consumption Commitment to draw down
  • Teams standardized on Entra ID, Azure RBAC and Microsoft Support
  • Builds that need most of the Claude API surface but must stay on the Azure invoice

What to watch

  • No EU data zone: deployments are global or US-only, and "hosted on Anthropic" deployments may process data outside Azure
  • Pay-as-you-go subscriptions start with very small quotas — production needs an Enterprise Agreement or a quota request
  • No Batches API, Managed Agents or HIPAA readiness; "hosted on Azure" deployments also lack code execution, Skills and Files

How you buy

Subscribe to the "Claude Platform on Foundry" offer with a paid Azure subscription; usage is metered in Claude Consumption Units at Claude API rates and billed monthly in arrears; MACC-eligible.

Claude API

Anthropic API, Messages API

The Claude API is Anthropic's first-party platform: a REST API at api.anthropic.com with the complete feature set — Messages, Batches, Files, Skills, server-side tools, MCP connector, Managed Agents — a direct relationship with Anthropic, and prepaid credits or invoicing.

Who it's for

  • Product teams and ISVs building Claude into software
  • Agentic builds that need server-side web search, code execution, Skills or Managed Agents
  • Anyone who wants new models on day one and Anthropic's own support

What to watch

  • Inference is global by default; the only pinning option is US-only, at a premium — no EU option
  • Credits expire a year after purchase and are non-refundable
  • Start-tier limits are modest; plan production capacity with the tier ladder in mind

How you buy

Create an organization in the Claude Console, buy prepaid credits with a card (auto-reload available), or move to monthly invoicing through sales; rate-limit tiers — Start, Build, Scale, Custom — advance automatically with spend.

Claude Console

Anthropic Console; the Workbench is now the playground

The Claude Console at platform.claude.com is the management surface of the Claude API — API keys, workspaces, billing and credits, usage and cost dashboards, rate limits, SSO/SCIM for the developer organization, and the playground (formerly Workbench). It is not a separate product or a separate bill.

Who it's for

  • Anyone using the Claude API — you get it automatically
  • Admins who need workspaces, spend limits and key rotation per project
  • Teams evaluating prompts in the playground before writing code

What to watch

  • It is separate from claude.ai plans — Team or Enterprise seats do not include API credits, and vice versa
  • Access to the Console is unrelated to whether your people have Claude app seats
  • For Claude Platform on AWS, members and keys are managed in the AWS Console instead

How you buy

Nothing to buy: it comes with the Claude API organization; credits and invoices for API usage are managed inside it.

Claude Team vs Claude Enterprise: what's the difference?

Both are seat plans for people, sold by Anthropic, with the same apps: Claude on web, desktop and mobile, Claude Code, Cowork, Design, connectors. The difference is governance depth, team size and the billing model. Team is for 2 to 150 people, bought with a card, with a fixed price per seat and usage included per member (Standard or Premium seats); it has SSO, domain capture, just-in-time provisioning, role-based permissions and spend caps.

Enterprise starts at 20 seats self-serve or 50 seats through sales, charges an access fee per seat and then meters all usage at API rates with spend limits per organization, group and user, and adds SCIM provisioning, audit logs, a Compliance API, custom data retention, IP allowlisting, customer-managed encryption keys, a HIPAA-ready configuration and a US-only inference option. An Enterprise parent organization can also link Claude Console (API) organizations, which is how companies keep people and software under one contract.

Rule of thumb: pick Team if you are under 150 people and your security policy is satisfied by SSO and role-based access; pick Enterprise if you need SCIM, audit trails or retention controls, if a large share of the team will use Claude Code or Cowork heavily, or if you will exceed 150 seats. Moving from Team to Enterprise is a one-way migration, so settle the governance question early.

Claude API, Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud or Microsoft Foundry: which should host your build?

All five developer platforms serve the same models with the same Messages API shape, prompt caching, tool use and extended thinking. They differ in who operates inference, how you pay, which server-side features exist, and where inference can run.

Claude API — and Claude Platform on AWS

The first-party Claude API has the complete surface and same-day model launches; you pay Anthropic with prepaid credits or a monthly invoice, and rate-limit tiers advance with spend. Claude Platform on AWS is the same platform, operated by Anthropic, reached through your AWS account and billed via AWS Marketplace so the spend retires AWS commitments — full parity except HIPAA readiness, fast mode and a few admin endpoints, with rate limits held on the Start tier until an Anthropic representative raises them. Neither offers EU pinning: routing is global or US-only.

Amazon Bedrock

AWS-operated: AWS is the data processor and Anthropic has no operator access. Choose it when policy requires the cloud provider to process the data, when you need EU inference profiles, or for AWS compliance programs such as FedRAMP High in GovCloud and HIPAA eligibility. The price is feature surface — the core Messages API without Anthropic's server-side tools — and AWS's own quotas, support and model lifecycle dates.

Google Cloud (Vertex AI / Agent Platform)

Google-operated, on Google Cloud IAM and billing. Its eu multi-region endpoint is the second EU-residency option, provisioned throughput is available on regional endpoints, and web search is the one Anthropic server-side tool it carries. The newest models run on global or multi-region endpoints only, and Google sets prices, quotas and lifecycle dates.

Microsoft Foundry

Anthropic-operated on Azure: Azure endpoints, Entra ID and an Azure invoice that draws down a Microsoft Azure Consumption Commitment, with Microsoft Support as the support path. "Hosted on Anthropic" deployments carry most of the Claude API surface (no Batches, no Managed Agents); "hosted on Azure" deployments keep prompts inside Azure but lose code execution, Skills and Files. There is no EU data zone, and pay-as-you-go quotas are tiny until an Enterprise Agreement or a quota request.

Which paths give you EU data residency, SSO/SCIM and zero data retention?

Only two paths keep model inference inside the EU today: Amazon Bedrock (EU inference profiles and in-region endpoints such as Stockholm and Ireland) and Google Cloud (the eu multi-region endpoint). The Claude API, Claude Platform on AWS and Microsoft Foundry route globally by default and can be pinned to the US only; Foundry's EU data zone is listed as not available; the Claude apps offer a US-only option on Enterprise and no EU option. Data residency is not the same as GDPR compliance — Anthropic-operated paths come with a data processing addendum and transfer safeguards — but where a policy demands EU processing, the list is two.

SSO is available on Claude Team, Claude Enterprise and Claude Console organizations after domain verification; SCIM is available on Enterprise and Console organizations only, so a Team plan gives you single sign-on with just-in-time provisioning but no automated deprovisioning. On the cloud paths identity is the cloud's own — AWS IAM, Google Cloud IAM, Microsoft Entra ID — and the audit trail lives in CloudTrail, Cloud Audit Logs or Azure Monitor rather than in Anthropic's Compliance API.

No path trains on your data by default. Zero data retention is available on request on the Claude API and Claude Platform on AWS, and as an option on Microsoft Foundry, with the newest Fable and Mythos models requiring 30-day retention; on Bedrock and Google Cloud, retention is governed by AWS and Google because Anthropic never receives the content. HIPAA-ready configurations exist on the Claude API and Claude Enterprise (self-serve BAA) and through AWS on Bedrock — not on Claude Platform on AWS or Foundry.

What is the Claude Console, and do you need it as well as the API?

The Console is not a separate product. Every Claude API organization has one: it is where keys, workspaces, credits, usage and rate limits live, and where the playground replaced the old Workbench in August 2026. You do not buy it; you use it.

The confusion comes from claude.ai: a Team or Enterprise subscription buys seats for people, while the Console holds credits for software. They are billed separately, and a Claude Team seat does not give your developers API credits — nor does an API balance give your staff the Claude apps. Enterprise customers can link the two under one parent organization for shared governance, but the meters stay distinct.

Can you combine paths as you grow?

Yes, and most companies end up on two. The typical sequence for a Greek or EU SME: Claude Team seats for the people who write, analyze and sell; a Claude API organization (through the Console) for the first automation or product feature; then, once governance requirements or headcount grow, Claude Enterprise as the parent organization that links the Console org — or a cloud path if procurement moves the API spend onto AWS, Google Cloud or Azure.

Two things are one-way or sticky: Team → Enterprise cannot be reversed, and a Claude Platform on AWS organization is always new — an existing Claude API organization cannot be converted. Model IDs, SDKs and prompts port across all five API platforms, so switching hosts is an engineering task, not a rewrite; only the features that exist solely on Anthropic-operated paths (server-side tools, Files, Batches, Skills, Managed Agents) stay behind when you move to Bedrock or Google Cloud.

Which path fits you?

Read down until a rule matches your situation. These are the rules we apply on a first call, in the same order — team size and governance first, then residency and compliance, then what you are building and where your cloud spend lives.

  1. IfClaude is for people and you are 2 to 19

ThenClaude Team. If you need SCIM, audit logs or a HIPAA-ready setup, those require Claude Enterprise and its 20-seat minimum.

  2. IfPeople, 20 to 150

ThenClaude Team — unless you need SCIM, audit logs, custom retention or HIPAA, or a large share of the team will use Claude Code and Cowork heavily: then Claude Enterprise, budgeted with spend limits.

  3. IfPeople, more than 150

    ThenClaude Enterprise.

  4. IfPeople, and EU data residency is mandatory

ThenNo app plan pins inference to the EU (Enterprise offers US-only). Keep the residency-sensitive workload on the software side — Amazon Bedrock or Google Cloud — and use the apps for everything else.

  5. IfSoftware, and EU data residency is mandatory

ThenAmazon Bedrock (on AWS or with no cloud preference) or Google Cloud (on GCP). The Claude API, Claude Platform on AWS and Microsoft Foundry are excluded. If you also need server-side tools or Managed Agents, no path gives you both today: choose residency with plain inference, or the tools on the Claude API with global routing and a data processing addendum.

  6. IfSoftware, and HIPAA applies

ThenClaude API (self-serve BAA) or Amazon Bedrock (AWS HIPAA-eligible) — not Claude Platform on AWS, not Microsoft Foundry.

  7. IfSoftware that needs server-side tools, Managed Agents, Batches, Files or Skills

ThenClaude API. On AWS, Claude Platform on AWS is an equal alternative; on Azure, Microsoft Foundry hosted on Anthropic covers most of it except Batches and Managed Agents.

  8. IfSoftware, and you want to use an existing cloud commitment

ThenAWS: Claude Platform on AWS for the full surface, or Amazon Bedrock when AWS must be the sole data processor. Google Cloud: Vertex AI / Agent Platform. Azure: Microsoft Foundry — check the quotas before a production date.

  9. IfSoftware, no cloud preference

ThenClaude API through the Console: prepaid credits with a card to start today, or sales-assisted monthly invoicing if procurement needs an invoice.

  10. IfProduction at scale on any software path

ThenCheck the rate limits first: Claude API tiers advance with spend; Claude Platform on AWS stays on the Start tier until raised; Foundry pay-as-you-go starts tiny; Bedrock and Google quotas are the cloud's. Ask for the increase before the launch date, not after.

  11. IfBoth people and software

ThenTake the primary path from the people rules and the secondary from the software rules; a Claude Enterprise parent organization can link Claude Console organizations so both sit under one contract.
